Treatment of chronic gastritis

How can chronic gastritis be treated?

Treatment without medication:

  • Adjusting one’s diet, in order to include all fruits and vegetables, foods high in probiotics, lean meats (low fat), beans, tofu, as well as whole grain, fiber rich foods.
  • The patient must avoid eating foods high in salt or fat, they must limit or refrain from alcohol consumption, and they must avoid consuming high amounts of red meat or heavily cured meats.
  • The patient must consume regular meals and establish a nutritive regime, by eating frequently in small amounts.
  • Some foods have natural anti-microbial properties, such as cranberries, garlic, ginger or turmeric.
  • Avoiding or refraining from usage of NSAID drugs or aspirin.

Treatment with medication:

  • Antacids, including calcium carbonate
  • H2 antagonists
  • Proton pump inhibitors
