How are stomach ulcers treated?

Treating Stomach Ulcera

Treatment using medication:

    • Antibiotics to fight the H.pylori infection
    • H2 blockers (ranitidine etc)
    • Proton pump inhibitors (pantoprazole, omeprazole, esomeprazole etc)
    • Antacids (sodium-bicarbonates, calcium carbonates, etc)
    • Cytoprotective agents such as bismuth subsalicylate, etc

Surgical treatment:

    • Ulcers that may require surgery include:
      1. Ulcers that continue to return
      2. ulcers that do not heal
      3. bleed
      4. cause perforation of the stomach or the small intestine
      5. prevent the food from passing from the stomach into the small intestine (stenosis of the duodenum)
